In 2023, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) brought the National Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (NSTW) to Iloilo City, marking the first time the Philippines held its biggest annual S&T event outside Metro Manila. This year, Cagayan de Oro will be hosting the 2024 celebration, which will take place at the Limketkai Center from November 27 to December 1. The 2024 NSTW will feature different forums, activities, and interactive exhibits organized by the DOST alongside its partner institutions and stakeholders.

Celebrating science, technology, and the green economy

With the theme “Siyensya, Teknolohiya, at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan” and the sub-theme “Providing Solutions and Opening Opportunities in the Green Economy,” the 2024 NSTW will focus on advancing and promoting waste management practices towards a circular economy and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy technologies to benefit businesses and communities.

“Bringing the biggest annual science, technology, and innovation (STI) celebration to Cagayan de Oro City will definitely benefit not just Cagayan de Oro but the entire Mindanao Island,” said DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr. “Local industry stakeholders will have the opportunity to learn how various research and development (R&D) outputs and scientific and technical services can further strengthen the quality of their products and services, as well as make them sustainable by advancing green economy practices.”

Since April 2024, various provinces across the Philippines have been celebrating Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW), starting in Tagbilaran City, Bohol. These activities will continue until the second week of November, with the RSTW’s last leg in Davao City.

About the annual NSTW

Pursuant to Proclamation 780 in 2019, the yearly NSTW celebration was moved from the third week of July to the fourth week of November, in alignment with the academic calendar of most universities, schools, and educational institutions. This was intended to give students, professionals, the general public, and other stakeholders a better opportunity to participate in the celebration.
