ask theory, climate change, gerry bagtasa, lulubog ba talaga ang pilipinas pagdating ng 2050?

Hosted by EIC Mikael Angelo Francisco, Ask Theory shines the spotlight on Pinoy scientific brilliance, in a fun and entertaining “kwentuhan” format. Each episode of Ask Theory  features a Pinoy scientist from one of the various scientific disciplines. In a very casual conversation, guests explain what they do in simple terms, as well as share their fascinating stories: how they got into science, the challenges they face, what motivates them to pursue their fields, what future scientists from the Philippines can look forward to, and so much more.

Episode 22: Lulubog Ba Talaga Ang Pilipinas Pagdating Ng 2050?

Our guest on today’s show is Dr. Gerry Bagtasa, an atmospheric physicist and a Professor at the University of the Philippines Diliman’s Institute of Environmental Science & Meteorology.

We talked about why certain parts of the Philippines could go underwater by the year 2050, how well we’re preparing for natural hazards and the effects of climate change, a mysterious (and major) brewing climate problem that’s right under our noses, concrete steps we can take to mitigate the impact of climate change in the Philippines, the problematic messaging of certain parties regarding climate change, and more.

Note: This interview took place in November 2020.
