FlipFact of the Day: Due to its salt content, the Dead Sea is remarkably dense. Not only will you float easily, but you’ll also be unable to sink. It is for the same reason, however, that swimming in it is a particularly dangerous activity. For starters, the water itself is quite unpleasant. It can severely irritate your eyes, make even the smallest cuts and bruises on your skin sting to a nigh-unbearable degree, and even poison you. In addition, it is very difficult to get up in the Dead Sea, because you’ll have an extremely hard time trying to touch the bottom with your feet. In other words, if you accidentally turn over and end up face-first into the water, you can – and if no help comes, almost certainly will – drown.

Today’s Science History Milestone: On July 24, 1969, Apollo 11 made it back to Earth, splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.
